FHM’s 100 Greatest Games of All Time

Posted by , 15 June 2009

Golden Axe

Year: 1989
Platform: Mega Drive

Why it’s a classic: A side-scrolling precursor to urban-based twat-‘em-up Streets of Rage, this was crammed full of the same frenetic combat. True, it lacked two-player co-op. But it did have a hot girl in a bikini with a big sword, skeletons and an angry dwarf. Top stuff.

Best bit: Knocking a mounted enemy off their dinosaur-bird-thing, then using it to tail-whip them into oblivion.
