FHM’s 100 Greatest Games of All Time

Super Mario 64

Year: 1997
Platform: N64

Why it’s a classic: Remember queuing up at the little N64 booth in Woolworths? Remember going “ooooh” as the fleshed-out plumber ran around in full 3D for the very first time? Eleven years on, it’s still one of the best platform games available (download it through the Wii’s Virtual Console for a paltry £7.50), surpassed only by spiritual predecessor Super Mario Galaxy and very, very few others.

Best bit: Grabbing Bowser by the tail and hurling him into deep space, aided by furious twirling of the analogue stick.
