FHM’s 100 Greatest Games of All Time

The Secret Of Monkey Island

Year: 1990
Platform: Amiga

Why it’s a classic: These were the days when RPGs were sound-free and characters were rarely made of more than twenty pixels. But still LucasArts’ piratey point-and-click adventure remains one of the decade’s most immersive, funniest, and all-round best titles. Lots of monkeys to be had, too.

Best bit: Insult sword-fighting, which involves defeating fellow swash-bucklers by learning and delivering killer put-downs. Brilliantly original, and still hilarious.
