FHM’s 100 Greatest Games of All Time

Thief: The Dark Project

Year: 1998
Platform: PC

Why it’s a classic: Back in the late nineties, powerful PCs were chucking out graphics that consoles could only dream of. Few took advantage more effectively than this, the godfather of stealth games. Beautiful shadows, spot-on animation and scarily efficient enemy add up to one of the decade’s very best.

Best bit: Realising that stabbing and clubbing everything in sight will render you very dead, very quickly. Sounds obvious now, but as a contemporary of the Quake series, it was revolutionary.
