This is the Adidas Teimgeist II, Adidas’ answer to goal line ‘Was it, wasn’t it?’ debates. It uses a magnetic field to track the location of the ball on the field at any given time, so will be able to tell referees - definitively and beyond doubt – whether or not the ball has crossed the line.
Adidas has been working on the project since 2003 and, after successful testing at the FIFA World Club Cup in Japan over the weekend, hopes to have the ball approved by FIFA for use at the 2010 World Cup.
Chances of you getting one of these for Christmas? Was Sir Geoff Hurst’s ’66 World Cup final ‘goal’ a goal?
