FHM’s 100 Greatest Games of All Time

Posted by , 15 June 2009

Gauntlet

Year: 1985
Platform: Arcade

Why it’s a classic: One game? Being played by more than one person? At the same time? Nearly two decades before Xbox Live, this multiplayer pioneer was as advanced as anyone could ever foresee gaming would get. But don’t laugh. Instead, try re-creating the atmosphere of four people crammed around an arcade cabinet over an internet connection. Can’t be done.

Best bit: The moment you realise you’ve just spent the best 20p of your life. Hack and slash as much as you want – you won’t reach the end. There isn’t one.
