Face it, school is a bloody weird place. So it makes sense that all the best high school movies (Heathers, Rushmore, Donnie Darko) present it as some sort of alternative reality. This genre-mashing film plucks the characters, dialogue and plot from a 1940s film noir and dumps them in a high school parking lot. Okay, there are times when all the rapid-fire smartarse dialogue is just too obscure, but it's by far the most rewarding film-geek movie around at the mo.
