Ricky Gervais is in a film. Not as a bit part, no – as the ‘star’. Shying away from the shockingly shit cameos he’s been indulging in of late (Stardust, Night At The Museum) he’s plumped for new ‘rom-com’ of sorts, Ghost Town.
The new movie sees Office once-funnyman playing, surprise surprise, a grumpy git who no-one likes. So off he trots around the screen, being grouchy. Except (and here comes the clever bit) he’s dead. Kind of. In a Sixth-Sense-minus-the-annoying-kid-way he’s dead… and can see dead people. So dead people ask him to do stuff (as he’s kind of still alive) and, blah blah blah, he meets a girl, discovers he’s really nice, lassoes a rainbow, rides a unicorn, and gets a big fat cheque. The End.
Needless to say, FHM remains dubious on this one. Though the trailer does occasionally hint at Gervais being a bit funny, it’s only a bit.
When? Don’t hold your breath – Ricky won’t be on the screens for a few months. More specifically, October 24.
