Stars: Hugo Weaving, Natalie Portman
They say: A shadowy freedom fighter known only as "V" uses terrorist tactics to fight against his totalitarian society. Upon rescuing a girl from the secret police, he also finds his best chance at having an ally.
We say: This latest comic book adaption isn't just an action film - it's a smart action film. A Wachowski brothers special this, like The Matrix, is the tale of a masked man's revolution, filled with deep meanings that you probably won't get. Stylish, but gory at times, with Mr V in his Halloween mask terrorising the government, blowing 'symbolic' buildings up and generally venting his anger at the dictator running city of London. Well worth beefing up your DVD collection with - especially for the final half hour's climactic bloodfest. Just try to ignore the wordy monologues and oh-so-very English accents...
