Heat

The bandits: Ice-cool career thief Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro) is in charge of a bunch of greedy crims who wear suits and include a long haired, emotionally volatile Val Kilmer.

The loot: Loads of money, all of which is locked in the safe at some investment bank in Malibu. Original, if anything.

The plan: To wear balaclavas, because balaclavas are cool. Then to use guns to scare customers, then handcuff security, shout loads, pretend to be reasonable by telling ill people to sit against a wall, steal the money and get the hell out of there.

Does it work? Big no. The bandits are sold old to the police and Lieutenant Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) arrives on the scene, and he’s cross. And short. The hunt climaxes in a shootout, with inevitably bad consequences. Shootouts never end well.
