The London Astoria’s ten best gigs

Blur

When? 2003.

Why was it good? The soon-to-be defunct Blur played a record-breaking six-night residency at the Astoria to baying Londoners wanting a piece of their last album Think Tank. Fraught with tension that would split the band up, and dogged by everyone’s suspicions that Damon Albarn had indeed had a hair transplant, the quartet ripped it up like never before. And then it died. Their six-night record would be equalled by The Enemy, Alex James would go off and make cheese, Damon became a monkey and Graham Coxon stayed cool.
