The London Astoria’s ten best gigs

Manic Street Preachers

When? 1994.

Why was it good? The Manics’ two Astoria gigs in December 1994 were their last UK shows before their anorexic bassist and songwriter Richey Edwards disappeared and either did or didn’t throw himself off a bridge. No body has ever been found, so he could be anywhere. Technically he’s dead, because you get struck off the list of Humans Who Are Alive if no one’s seen you for seven years. So make sure you ring your Mum intermittently if you go walkies, or no one will know if you’re collecting all the post she’s forwarding. And she’ll start to worry.
