Like the entire world (except China), the music industry has been swallowed by an unquenchable ocean of financial doom. Kids with guitars and the people who promote them can’t shift discs anymore. Yet new acts keep coming. Old acts keep reforming. And bigger gigs are being played, because that’s where the money’s at.
2009 will see two things happen. One: female solo artists tinkering with synths and pretending it’s 1982 will be all over your ears. Two: big/culty bands will reform and pretend not to be doing it for the money. Everyone knows it’s not 1982, and that the old dudes need the dosh. But you’ll love it anyway. Because at least Coldplay have sodded off.
