The Stone Roses
Who? Pioneers of Madchester, The Stone Roses fell apart in 1996 after the band, without lead guitarist John Squire, played some of the worst gigs of all time. Oh, and they all despised each other. It’s possible they still do, making this the biggest ‘maybe’ on our list.
Why do we care? Rumours of reunion follow them everywhere. If it happened, they’d play every festival going and delight every baggy-trousered, nostalgic human in England. Singer Ian Brown already nicks their back catalogue for his live shows, so in many ways, they might as well reform.
Key song? I Wanna Be Adored, the opening track on their self-titled first album.
When? Maybe never. But if it happens, expect it before the festival season. If it doesn’t, go and see Blur.
