Why it’s a classic: At last – a Japanese adventure game for everyone that doesn’t have a Hello Kitty pendant hanging off their mobile phone. No androgynous heroes with spiky hair. No swords the size of snow ploughs. Just an immersive story, rousing music and – crucially – bosses bigger than dinosaurs. The really big ones.
Best bit: Finding the first towering Colossus beast, scaling its furry back, then stabbing it hard in the head. Repeatedly. Until it dies.
