NCIS: Los Angeles (Naval Criminal Investigative Service: Los Angeles) is exciting. It makes you feel clever and it usually finishes before ten so you can get to bed at a reasonable. It’s neatly bundled package of super crime fighting fun. And even better than that, it stars hip-hop hero turned action star LL Cool J as special-forces hard nut Sam Hanna. FHM was lucky enough to talk the great man and go walking with the panther. Swoon.

How did you get into the mindset of your grizzled veteran character?

I did a lot of research, I met with the special ops guys because my characters a Navy SEAL, and he did some special operations in the Middle East. So met with them and discussed what it was like being over there, what the mindset was like. I learnt a lot, just the little things like knowing that you may lose your life comes with the territory. It was really interesting. It was interesting, pretty intense, they had to cover up a lot of things when I went into their offices.

Did you get to hold their guns?

I did weapons training, I met with actual NCIS officers and learnt how to deal with hostage situations and I learnt how to move, as military men move differently. I had to learn that mind set.

Why do people like police shows so much?

In the case of my show, it’s because you get to be a fly on the wall, people get to see what it’s like when people are trying to solve these crimes and solve these puzzles. The audience like to try and second guess the show and that’s fun. It’s Agatha Christie with guns!

Have you ever thwarted a real life crime?

I had cousin that stole some money and I got her out in jail, so I kind of thwarted that crime.

Have you ever slid over the bonnet of your car when no ones looking?

Ha, I’ve done worse than that, I’ve done donuts in a little sports car in a built up area, for like an hour, I burnt the clutch out.
