The 10 best British TV shows of 2009
The Street
The third series of The Street concentrated each of its six episodes on a different person living on, you guessed it, a street, somewhere in the north. It covered recovering alcoholics, cheating husbands, soldiers returning from war and single mothers who turn to prostitution for extra cash, and was always emotional, tense and funny all at the same time. Also, it featured some of Britain’s finest acting talent: Stephen Graham, Bob Hoskins, Anna Friel and Timothy Spall.
