Forget the aberration that was Heroes' second season, the first was genuine event television. Every week a a group of heroes grappled with special, and not always welcome, powers finding their lives intertwining as the world lurched towards apocalypse. Genuinely spine-tingling and tapping into so many post 9/11 fears about the world we live in, it also has a rare faith in satisfying character development. Great sci-fi, just a shame season two nearly ruined it.
Extras: None
Memorable Quote: "Save the cheerleader, save the world"
Obscure fact: Annoyed that Heroes appears to be going down the Lost route of getting ever more ridiculous as the seasons mount up? There's a reason for that: Lost executive producer Damon Lindelof helped with the pitch for Heroes.
