When: 1980s
Words: “Um Bongo, Um Bongo, they drink it in the Congo / The python picked the passion fruit, the marmoset the mandarin / The parrot painted packets, that the whole caboodle landed in / So when it comes to sun and fun and goodness in the jungle / They all prefer the sunny funny one they call Um Bongo!”
Trivia: It’s a little known fact that Um Bongo immediately became the number one drink in the Republic of Congo after the release of this advert, taking over from the considerably less tasty Five Alive. The problem with Five Alive, you see, is that the dominant flavour is lime.
