Sea Spray Hotel, Brighton
Lavish foreign breaks might be out this Christmas – credit crunch, collapse of western society etc – but Brighton has that ‘dirty weekend’ vibe and is closer to home. The Sea Spray is a small – but affordable – boutique hotel recently commended by the English Tourist Board. Right by The Lanes shopping area and seafront, it has 20 themed rooms – Moroccan, Oriental, Salvador Dali etc. There’s sea views, free wi-fi, DVD/CD players and Freeview in the rooms, and an onsite spa offering everything from facials and saunas to clairvoyance (if that’s your thing). If you’re feeling a bit more hardcore, Botox and dermal fillers are also on offer. Once the feeling’s returned to your chops, you can wander a few doors down to Alexander’s Gastronomy restaurant, run by Alex Chalk who previously worked under Gordon Ramsay.
