Here's the sum total of what anyone knows about mysterious, buzzed-over new pop duo Saint Lou Lou: they are identical twin sisters; they were born in Sweden and raised in Australia; they make woozy electropop; and they are very very fit. Very, very, very, fit.

In fact, we're going to stick our necks out and declare them the hottest twins in all the history of popular music. A bold statement, for sure – but we reckon Saint Lou Lou more than hold their own against the competition...

When Translyvanian twins Gabriela and Monica Irimia first appeared on the audition stages of Popstars: The Rivals, it was hard to tell if they were joking, or simply a bit tapped in the head. Either way, they instantly captured the public's imagination, scoring a number-two hit with Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum). Sadly, the public then turned on them, voting Cheeky Song the worst single of all time in a Channel 4 poll.

But come on now: was it really that bad?

Sweet weeping Jesus, yes. Yes it was.

Fondly remembered by men of a certain age, Gayle and Gillian Blakeney lit up early-'90s TV screens as the lush-lipped Alessi twins in never-ending daft-a-thon Neighbours. Following in the footsteps of ex-cast members Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, the twins released two singles in the UK - the first of which reached number 75, and the second of which scaled the dizzy heights of number 62.

While they were at it, they also appeared in a Head & Shoulders commerical, which featured a thrilling two-second scene of Gayle (or Gillian, who knows) getting all lathered up in the shower.

Mmmm. Soapy.

Adele and Keavy Lynch were 50 percent of denim-clad, bizarrely successful late-'90s Irish girl group B*Witched. (Further adding to the Lynch family's stranglehold on low-rent pop, their brother Shane was one-fifth of mewling stool-sitters Boyzone.) The Lynch twins now perform as a duo, under the name Barbarellas, but the days of three-million album sales and straight-armed diddle-dee jigging in front of crowds of adoring fans are sadly behind them.

Let's stop now, shall we?

Seems pretty conclusive, then, doesn't it: Saint Lou Lou are the greatest twins in all of pop. All hail Saint Lou Lou!
