Friendly Fires - July 14

Friendly Fires - July 14

Friendly Fires are all about having a good time, be it their twitchy on-stage dancing, their belting electro-pop tunes or their gigantic confetti cannons.

Fresh from hopping around the globe promoting second album Pala, the three-piece returned to Camden's Roundhouse to deliver a set packed to the teeth with the best from both their albums.

The round venue, stacked with pipes, mesh and rustic lights might not befit the utopian dream which the band's new album explores, but eccentric strobe lighting and a gigantic tropical parrot brought some of the sun-kissed glamour to the darkened stage.

Highlights of the evening? Skeleton Boy, the band's achy-breaky indie anthem, getting a clubland twist in the form of a euphoric drum solo. And hearing Hawaiian Air's tongue-in-cheek lyrics studded with synthy holiday beats reminded us of that holiday we were going to book, but never got round to.

Friendly Fires album Pala is out now, and make sure to check out this month's FHM to hear singer Ed discuss sweater-obsessed fans, perverted bus drivers and their penchant for faberge eggs.
