Man, if we had a magic ring there’s really no telling the sort of wacky antics we’d get up to. Probably stuff like running up really close behind people only to disappear when they turned around, or flying up to the fifth floor instead of being all human and taking the lift. Life would be sweet.

Ryan Reynolds has a magic ring in new film Green Lantern. Ryan Reynolds is a guy you may or may not remember from such seminal films as Van Wilder: Party Liaison, or from being the guy married to Scarlett Johansson for a while, but who now is somehow, inexplicably, divorced from Scarlett Johansson. (We’ll take that to mean he’s simple.) Anyway, in the film his magic ring means he becomes the first human member of the Green Lantern Corps, who are an intergalactic version of our police force, but with flashier outfits.

This all seems great fun at first, and Ryan’s character Hal spends lazy days testing out his new powers while flirting with Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively, who looks lovely by the way. Look at Blake Lively looking lovely. Well done Blake.

Soon enough though, as tends to be the way in comic book films, things get ugly. The Green Lantern Corps find themselves locked in battle with evil enemy Parallax, whom we’re assured is pretty big news outside earthly boundaries.

Do they manage to defeat the evil villain and restore justice to the universe? Will Ryan Reynolds’ chiseled cheekbones continue to mock our own chubby jowls? Will Blake Lively ever answer our calls? Head to a cinema near you to find out….

The Green Lantern is in cinemas from June 17
