On Tuesday, our quest to discover our Stand-Up Hero for 2010 ended when we crowned 26-year-old Josh Widdicombe as this country’s most exciting comedy prospect.
Now in its second year, Stand-Up Hero was hosted by Australian funny man Brendon Burns, broadcast over six weeks on ITV4 and featured 25 comedians performing for judges Ronni Ancona, John Thomson and Jo Caufield.
They praised Josh for his “extremely well structured” set and gave him £10,000 in exchange for making them laugh. That’s a good deal right there. He said: “I am delighted to win FHM Stand Up Hero, this is the best thing to happen to me since I met Nigella Lawson.” Having met Nigella Lawson twice ourselves, we’re taking that as a compliment.
Josh has been a stand-up comedian for two and a half years and performed on bills featuring Kevin Bridges, Michael McIntyre and Alan Carr. He won the So You Think You’re Funny comedy competition at Ednburgh Festival in 2008 and the Leicester Mercury comedian of the year competition earlier this year.
