Firstly, we know you're not exactly going to be pulled in by the same guy who directed Moulin Rouge! and Romeo & Juliet. They're not the most manly of films to enjoy, even though we secretly do a little bit. However, Baz Luhrmann's next effort, The Great Gatsby, has already created a hell of a lot of buzz.

01 The basics

The Great Gatsby follows would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings, and sky-rocketing stocks.

Nick, played by Tobey Maguire, lands next door to party-giving millionaire Jay Gatsby (Leo DiCaprio), and across the way from his cousin Daisy (Carey Mulligan) and her philandering husband Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton).

Nick has arrived in the world of the super rich: love, lust and deceit. As he bears witness to it, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy.

Sounds preety dramatic, doesn't it, but in a good way.
