What’s the worst injury you’ve seen in the octagon?
Tim Sylvia’s forearm broke in half and it didn’t look good. He wanted to continue, but they wouldn’t let him. I went to college to be a paramedic though, so it didn’t bother me – I love the fights.

Ever been in a fight?
Only once and not by choice. It was at high school and a girl got her friends involved – around three of them – but I held my own.

Has life on the fight circuit made you harder?
I’ve been boxing for four years and my left hook’s good. I’m a single girl so I have to be able to take care of myself.

Ali Sonoma
Reality TV hasn’t done much good for the world, but when 23-year-old Ali competed on one show to become a UFC octagon girl, it became briefly worthwhile. Born in St Louis, Missouri, she loves the fights, as does her 95-year-old grandma. She’s also fond of 20-gauge shotguns. “I had my own,” she says. “It was a gift from my ex-boyfriend, but he took it back. It was only fair as it was my fault – I’d found someone else.” Ooh, burn.

What’s the worst injury you’ve seen in the octagon?
Mirko Cro Cop was knocked unconscious and his leg twisted right round. A lot of people can’t forget that – it was brutal. But he was so flexible he didn’t get hurt.

Ever been in a fight?
In high school I fought over a guy. I gave a girl two black eyes and got suspended. I’m a bit of a bad girl.

Has life on the fight circuit made you harder?
I’ve been kickboxing for three years and work out every other day, so I’m strong. The roundhouse is my strongest kick, which is a hard one to master. But I was a dancer, so I’m good at it.

What’s the worst injury you’ve seen in the octagon?
A couple of guys got knocked out and shook, which was scary, and Rich Franklin got his nose broken. I cringe a little, but I’m really into it – even when blood’s flying.

Ever been in a fight?
At high school this girl called me a bitch, so I screamed, “What did you say?” She grabbed my hair so I punched her in the face, twice.

Has life on the fight circuit made you harder?
I’m a girly girl, but my right jab is strong. That girl from school would be in trouble now.
