The Nike 1948 store in Shoreditch has technically been open since 2008, when it was launched to coincide with the Beijing Olympics ('1948' being the year that London last hosted the games). Still, that didn't stop us from getting all excited when London's coolest store reopened its doors last week after an extensive refurbishment.
Housed in a disused East London railway arch, 1948 has become the go-to retail location for London-based sneakerheads seeking their fix, as well as a venue for parties, exhibitions and product launches. The refurbishment allows the store to continue to offer all these things, albeit in a more visually pleasing and technologically innovative environment.
The new space incorporates a gallery area, mezzanine level completel with meeting table and library, front garden and, of course, an excellent selection of footwear and apparel. 1948 only stocks the cream of Nike product - for this season that means the super-luxe NSW Collection (think cashmere crew necks and leather duffel bags), GYAKUSOU aka the ultimate runner's kit, and obviously loads and loads of excellent trainers. Be sure to pay a visit at your earliest convenience.
