Adidas Originals are giving us all a 2014 treat with the relaunch of the classic Stan Smith tennis shoe, meaning we can all splash out on our own shiny new pairs instead of pinching our dad’s old ones.

What are they? The iconic trainers backed by tennis legend Stan Smith and the best-selling trainers of all time.

Pub fact: They’re the first-ever all-leather tennis shoe and, at the time of its conception, the most hi-tech trainer to bounce across a court. On their launch in 1971, Stan Smith was their pioneer until other players also started wearing them, blocking out Stan’s name with tape when they played him, which we can imagine was pretty awkward. Not that Stan cared. He was the world’s number one player.

Where to wear them: The obvious one is when you’re playing tennis but, considering it’s absolutely ball-shatteringly cold at the moment, we reckon they also make a good Saturday casual shoe for jaunts down the pub, bowling alley, shop or just sitting in your kitchen and staring at how awesome they are.

What to wear them with: Again, we’re going to assume that tennis whites are out at the minute, so team them with some jeans or sweats and a white tee for a classic look. If you’re feeling brave or you’re unusually proud of your ankles, go sockless (or cheat with some trainer socks, innit).

How much are they? Coming in at a pretty good £67, they’re a steal in terms of usual trainer prices, especially considering that they’re an absolute classic.
