Introduction

With a quick shout around the FHM offices on London’s Shaftesbury Avenue, it’s easy to get a picture of how New York’s seen from afar: “Burgers, bagels, the Empire State Building, pastrami, John Lennon getting shot, Central Park, massive soft drinks, skyscrapers, pavements, pizza, big apples, shopping, rats, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jay-Z and those gasbags in Sex and the City.”
 
But how well can anyone really know a city that never sleeps? The answer is to poke a grubby nose in on the city’s classic locations and establishments - and the people that have made them what they are. Here, FHM looks at 5 special snapshots...
