Big news for boot aficionados, bad news for clod-footed defenders. Nike have released the eighth incarnation of the Mercurial Vapor boot - built for explosive speed - in a dashing shade of mango.

Now available to pre-order from

The Mercurial is the boot that brought coloured ball-kickers to the big time when the original (and now quite tubby) Ronaldo wore a pair of silver and blue slippers for his ultimately ill-fated 1998 World Cup adventure.

But he was still wearing Mercurials four years later - this time the Mercurial Vapor I - when he notched a brace against Germany in the 2002 final.

Sadly, the big man's not playing anymore. He's mainly lording it in Ibiza and playing fast and loose with the notches on his belt. These days, it's players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar who carry the torch for Nike, designed as they are for players who like a bit of speed and flare.

But the new Mercurial Vapors got us thinking - who's the quickest player in the Premier League right now? Take out poll below and find out what other readers think...
