At 8.40pm last night, Eden Hazard – one of the most hotly tipped young footballers in the world – broke a few hearts in both the red and blue sides of Manchester by announcing that he would be moving to the "Champions League winners" this summer. Having been linked with potential moves to United, City, Arsenal and a handful of others for some time, Chelsea fans will be over the moon that the £40m-rated Lille playmaker has chosen the West Londoners as his next club.
For those yet to be convinced of the 21-year-old's genius, here's three reasons why he'll be propelling Chelsea back up to the top of the Prem again next season:
(1) His goalscoring record is insane
Last season Hazard notched up 22 goals in 48 appearances in Ligue 1. On top of that he created a staggering 16 assists. Here's every single one of them:
(2) He'll be fresh in August
While the vast majority of the Manchester clubs' players will spend summer knackering themselves out at the Euros, Hazard will be able to take the summer months to recuperate, thanks to Belgium's inability to qualify for the tournament.
(3) He's only 21
For all of Drogba's genius, there was no escaping his age (and lack of pace) last season. Hazard is not only lightning-quick and very, very skilful, but the best is also still to come.
Not convinced? Well, you'll be able to catch a sneak peek of him this weekend, when England play Belgium this Saturday...
