As per the description on CBS Films:
"American Assassin follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien), a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War in the Middle East."
Additionally, the film was adapted from the novel (of the same name) written by Vince Flynn and directed by Michael Cuesta who also happened to direct the pilot episode of Showtime's acclaimed series, Dexter.
American Assassin will undoubtedly be a killer film if not for the riveting plot, then most definitely for it's star-studded cast. Michael Keaton alone should bring people out to the box office for his notable roles as both Batman and Beetlejuice, but Dylan O'Brien too has made quite the name for himself after starring in the hit Maze Runner movies based on the popular YA post-apocalyptic dystopian novels written by James Dashner. Just as aside, I've read them all, 10/10 would recommend.
The supporting cast includes, Sanaa Lathan, who will forever be in our hearts for her role as Monica Wright in Love and Basketball, as well as Taylor Kitsch from Friday Night Lights.
I'm aware that sometimes when a cast is just too good to be true, that the movie usually bombs but my hopes are super-high for this one. We'll be keeping our fingers crossed and looking forward to the Fall. American Assassin is set to hit theaters on Friday, September 15, 2017.
