As we mentioned earlier this week, all things old eventually becomes new again. We saw it first with the TV shows getting 2018 reboots and now, we're seeing it again with the Back to the Future car, The DeLorean DMC-12, set to get a new, modernized model. The original DeLorean DMC-12 hit the streets back in 1981 and for the time, it was a revolutionary ride. The futuristic aesthetic was made complete with stainless-steel body panels and those iconic gull-wing doors. Unfortunately, the DeLorean Motor Company took a pretty big hit in 1982 after John DeLorean was arrested for drug-trafficking charges. Despite being found not guilty, the company was unable to bounce back from bankruptcy and the DeLorean DMC-12 ceased production the following year.

Stephen Wynne, CEO of DeLorean, is confident that the new and improved DMC-12 will be back on the market by the end of this year. Don't get too excited, though, production is going to be very limited. Wynne explains: “We’re hoping by the end of this year we’ll convert part of this facility over to an assembly area and we’ll be assembling initially 22 cars a year."

Concrete details have yet to surface, but if the original DeLorean is any testament, we suspect it's going to be one seriously awesome ride back to the future — further proving that the modern day 80s revival is alive and well. From fashion, music, entertainment, and now, cars, nostalgia is a powerful force, guys.

So, what do you think? Would you guys mind driving around in a 2018 DeLorean or is it too kitschy? Frankly, we think it's a perfect blend of new and old and doesn't feel at all too corny. Then again, we haven't seen the final product, so, really, who knows? Here's hoping it's just as badass as the original (with a killer modern flair).
