To many, Hafthor Julius Björnsson is known as "The Mountain" on the HBO hit series, Game of Thrones. Acting as Cersei Lannister's muscle, The Mountain is a blue-faced, vicious S.O.B. who wrecks havoc and terror all over King's Landing. Despite rarely seeing his face in the later seasons, The Mountain is a nightmarish beast.
Turns out, in real life Hafthor Björnsson is still a beast, but of a different kind altogether. This past weekend Björnsson broke his own raw dead lift record by lifting 1,041 pounds at the 2018 Arnold Strongman Classic. He also happened to break a world record in the process. No big deal, right? You can check it out in the video below.
Holy smokes, that's one big man. Weighing in at a whopping 397 pounds and standing at 6′ 9″, it's no surprise that this strongman continues to break outlandish weight lifting records. That said, it's still incredibly impressive to watch. According to Sporting News, Björnsson broke the record set in 2017 by 10 pounds. The following day, he set another world record for throwing a 56-pound weight over a 20 foot bar.
His weight lifting accolades aside, The Mountain continues to play an integral role on Game of Thrones and we're interested to see how his character will impact the show's finale. If we had to guess, he'll go down crushing White Walkers until his very last breathe. Hell, he might even get turned into one. Yikes, now that would be a terrible way for Game of Thrones to end.
