If there's one thing we all know about Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James, it's that he's pretty much perfect when it comes to maintaining his image. After all, this is a guy who, since he was 15 years old, has been in the national spotlight after grabbing the cover of Sports Illustrated as a sophomore in high school, then saw his team's games be broadcast on ESPN as a junior and senior. So, yeah, considering he's had over half his life to learn from any of his own — or other athletes' — mistakes, we'd say he's top-notch at this kind of stuff.
However, LeBron James will have a little bit of a slip-up every once in awhile — and one of those instances just went public. That's because James, a married father of three, apparently went sliding into the DMs of some random Instagram model named Heidi Hoback, who, after some Internet digging, is a redheaded stunner who loves fishing, hunting and looking really sexy.
Hmm... wonder what LeBron James could ever find attractive with Heidi, huh?
According to COED, Heidi Hoback was one of their 42 Finalists from Miss COED 2017, as she submitted some pics of herself as a student at Virginia Tech, but later transferred to George Mason University.
Seeing as how Heidi likes to post outdoorsy things and pics of her doing the aforementioned activies onto her Instagram, James found that to be the ideal icebreaker. Here's what the four-time NBA MVP and three-time NBA champ slid into the DMs of Heidi — which she screengrabbed and shared to Snapchat.
This is a hilarious — and potentially pathetic — flirting technique by James. The whole LOL after asking her his question is borderline middle schoolish. Then again, the dude has clearly made lots of wise moves before, so who are we to judge.
Anyway, who knows if LeBron James was just being honest or he was trying to hide any advancements towards a pretty gal like Heidi Hoback? One thing's for sure, it smells pretty shady, so I'm sure James' wife isn't all too pleased with the news.
UPDATE: November 7
Well, look at what we have here, guys! While we have yet to hear from LeBron James about this whole sliding into DMs thing — which, let's face it, we never will — the model who he apparently hit up with a (potentially) awful pick-up line has finally given us a story about how it all came to be. The woman, Instagram model Heidi Hoback, took to YouTube to describe the encounter with King James, with an eight-minute explanation for fans to better understand what happened.
Since there's a good chance you don't have the attention span to sit through that entire thing like I did, here's a quick transcript of what Heidi had to say:
"...honestly was just having a normal day,” Hoback said. “Going over and hunting and then this wild encounter with a buck happened and it just so happened to be right when LeBron DMed me, so I thought I would share that.”
“I took to Snapchat to share it with my followers because I thought it would be a funny story. You know, the message was pretty innocent as far as I know. And then some of my followers informed me that he was married, which I had no clue because I don’t follow him. I wouldn’t consider myself a fan so I wasn’t aware of that at all. I guess that’s why it’s been made into a bigger deal than I originally thought it’d be.”
Now, I don't want to be one of those people claiming jersey chaser or anything — as some FHM readers did the other day when we first posted about this story — but the whole video is pretty comical. First off, OK, cool, tell us the story about how the world's most polarizing athlete, James, slid into your DMs unexpectedly, it's what we all want to know. But, come on, was it really necessary to do so with some stupid Snapchat filter on you? It really does make the whole thing cheesy and smell of fame hunting.
As for LeBron James, it hasn't really been a great few weeks for him. His Cleveland Cavaliers are struggling, he clearly did some shady stuff here by sliding into the DMs of Heidi and there doesn't seem to be a quick relief to the poor play of his teammates on the floor. It's no wonder James posted this message yesterday onto his Instagram.
Another one of James cryptic tweets has everyone wondering what it might have meant. Who really knows, but one thing's for sure: no matter how bad things to appear for LeBron James, any of us would happily trade places with him — even if he does have terrible game.
