Listen: You Won't Believe This Song Came From a Super Nintendo Game

Those of us who grew up in the 16-bit era remember the Super Nintendo fondly. The graphics, sound and overall experience of getting lost in its games made for a memorable childhood.

But what's amazing is how newer technology can show us pieces of these old experiences that we never knew was there. This is one of those found experiences -- a simple background song from Mario Paint, an unassuming source for a song that sounds like it could have been produced yesterday. Give this a listen:


The song is by acclaimed video game music composer Hirokazu Tanaka, who has scored games for Nintendo for decades. His most recent work includes the latest Smash Bros., and some of his earliest work? The original Donkey Kong!
