Matt Groening, The Creator Of 'The Simpsons' And 'Futurama' Is Making An Animated Medieval Adult Fantasy

Is it bad that the first thing I thought of when coming across this headline was a cartoon version of Game of Thrones? Seriously, I just pictured all the Starks and Lannisters bopping around with yellow skin and blue hair. Once the brief, albeit funny, day dream subsided—I dove into the real story at hand. So, the creator of BOTH The Simpsons and Futurama, Matt Groening, has a new show for 2018 in the works! Netflix announced yesterday that the show will be called, Disenchantment, and I've gotta say—I'm pretty stoked! I mean, The Simpsons has been on television for 28 seasons. Clearly the man knows what he's doing (despite the fact I prefer Futurama so much more).

According to The Verge

"The series’s protagonist is a young, “hard-drinking” princess named Bean (Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson), and her two male companions are a “feisty elf” named Elfo (Nat Faxon) and a demon named Luci (Eric Andre). While both The Simpsons and Futurama have dynamic, fleshed-out female characters, this is Groening’s first series with a clear female lead."

That is most definitely a solid lineup of Hollywood names. It should be interesting to see how Groening incorporates such big personalities like Eric Andre and Abbi Jacobsn into animated roles. Granted, he's no stranger at that, considering everyone and their mother has made cameo-appearances on The Simpsons. The Verge continued—

"The series will bear [Groening’s] trademark animation style and biting wit, and we think it's a perfect fit for our many Netflix animation fans," says Cindy Holland, Netflix’s vice president of original content.
