Celebrity photo hacking is sadly, not a new trend. This has been happening in pretty consistent waves since "The Fappenining" back in 2014 where as per Wikipedia, "A collection of almost 500 private pictures of various celebrities, mostly women, and with many containing nudity, were posted on the imageboard 4chan, and later disseminated by other users on websites and social networks such as Imgur and Reddit."
So far this year, Emma Watson, Amanda Seyfried, Demi Lovato, WWE's Paige, and Britney Spears just to name a few. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be slowing down as more and more women are being added to the list. Many have spoken out against it, but there are people who seem to think the best way to avoid the problem is to avoid taking nude photographs. It meets a similar logic as "if you don't want to get robbed, don't own any possessions."
It seems now Miley Cyrus has fallen victim to these very same hackers. According to Metro the 24-year-old pop star, actress, and television judge has become the latest victim of 2017's celebrity hacking scandal as nude photos of her have reportedly been stolen and posted on the website Celeb Jihad.
While Cyrus has never been shy about her body, it's important to remember that these photos were taken without her consent. This isn't a publicity stunt or a means of sexual expression, it's a crime. One of which has been the plight of far too many celebrity women in recent months. We hope that the hacking comes to an end sooner rather than later before more people are victimized. As with most things involving the internet, it's a very complicated matter, and while reporting on it may seem like feeding into the "hype", sharing and exploiting the images is far worse. Be sure to abstain from the urge. Just watch porn like a normal person, will ya please?
