Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to meet your new Miss Universe of 2017, South African bombshell Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, who was crowned as the champion the other day. Let us tell you, too, based off of what we've seen and have read about her, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters definitely deserves the Miss Universe title — and, of course, we're here to show you why!
One of the cool things about being crowned Miss Universe is that the competition is about more than just good looks — although that happens to help, too. That's because the may ladies hoping to win Miss Universe of 2017 are some of the most intelligent, savvy and community-driven women on the planet, really doing what they can to make an impact and help others out. Well, at least that's the best way to describe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.
The 22-year-old Demi-Leigh is hoping to use her title and recognition to help with HIV/AIDS and self-defense causes, per GoUpstate, saying that, "HIV/AIDS is a very big problem in my country South Africa, so I hope to stand as an advocate for that."
See, we told you the women who compete in Miss Universe — which was a total of 92 this year — are more than just gorgeous. And, after Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was named the winner, it's clear she symbolizes everything one would want in a champion!
Some other interesting facts about Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters is that, after being robbed at gunpoint just one month after earning Miss South Africa honors, she immediately helped develop a self-defense program in her home country to train women in various situations.
Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters takes over the Miss Universe title from Iris Mittenaere, a former Miss France, who was equally as deserving in 2016 as Demi-Leigh is of being named Miss Universe of 2017. Beauty, brains, inspiring, empowering and, well, we'll just stop there to avoid rambling on and on, but we think you get the point: the former and current Miss Universe are just incredible.
