OK, so, it's not like the 90s didn't have some seriously kickass toys, but, let's be real, none of them remotely compare to the literal craftsmanship that went into the newly announced Nerf Rival Prometheus MXVIII-20K. This thing is the perfect mixture of fun and terrifying — every kid's desired combination. Unfortunately, this beauty hasn't hit stores just yet, but we came across some exclusive first look material from Popular Mechanics that we'll go ahead and share with y'all.
Some highlights? Well, for starters, the Prometheus is wicked powerful. Popular Mechanics details that it fires rounds at speeds of up to 70 mph or 102 feet per second out of the barrel. Additionally, unlike it's predecessor, the Rival Nemesis MXVII-10K, Prometheus has a 200-round hopper coupled with an advanced acceleration system. During a test run with a prototype unit, Eric Limer of PM found that he went through 200 rounds in 36 seconds, or 5.5 rounds per second on average.
Is this thing starting to sound more and more like a military grade weapon, or is that just us? To bring things back down to toy land, the Prometheus is battery-operated. There's a built-in charger that connects using a wall charger — how very modern! PM explains that despite the $200 price tag, this Nerf gun is very much worth it!
If you can't justify spending $200 on a toy, we get it. Nerf will also be releasing the Rival Phantom Corps Hades XVII-6000 (as seen in the video above), which, is still pretty awesome and only retails for $70. That seems like a more much age appropriate choice, you know, considering you're an adult.
