I think a lot of people would say that technologically is incredibly helpful when it comes to dating. I also think that those are the very same people who frequently use Tinder for no strings, anonymous sex—but hey, correlation is not causation, right?

Look, there's nothing wrong with meeting people online. In fact, it's the status quo, so why bother deviating? Well, because I think the more accustomed and mainstream something becomes, the less likely it is to remain beneficial. You know what humans love to do? Take a logical, useful concept/tool and run it into the ground and that's exactly happening with dating and new tech.

Always Looking For The Next Best (Hottest) Thing

You know the idea that there's plenty of fish in the sea? Well, it's one thing to think it, it's another to see it. Online dating is, especially apps, is like swimming in sea of people at your fingertips without ever having to leave the house. This creates an issue of commitment. Sure, you might really be vibing with one girl but all the while you're scrolling through 100 others.

What's On The Inside Doesn't Count

This is pretty obvious, but let's touch upon it anyway. Your picture means everything, point blank. Online dating and dating apps are if nothing else, entirely about looks.

You've Gotta Be A Word Smith

Second most important to aesthetics is how you spit game via various messengers. What if you're just not great at texting? What if you rely too much on emojis? What if you're not the best with spelling and grammar? These are all things that will inevitably become turn-offs to most people. Also, let's not forget, if you're bio isn't clever, you're basically a dead man.

Too Many Platforms In The Sea

Tinder, OkCupid, J Date, Happn, Coffee Meets Bagel, Bumble, Meet Me, Match.com, Zoosk, Skout, Grindr, Badoo, Blendr, Scruff—do you see where I'm going with this? Gay, Straight, or otherwise, there's just too many apps!! How is a person supposed to remain steadfast and focused on finding someone with all of these options? It's like when you go to the mall to buy a present without knowing what the present is. You'll end up roaming in and out of 100 stores before eventually landing on something lame out of sheer desperation.

These apps are more often than not used for hookups (at least depending on the platform). This is about new tech f-cking up your DATING game. If you're looking for hearts and flowers, sometimes technology is not the way to go. Maybe go meet a nice girl at the grocery store! I've seen it happen in the movies before.

Permanent Paper Trail

Screengrabbing—just always remember screengrabbing. Anything you say to anyone can be forever preserved on the intenert. Hell, there's accounts nowadays strictly dedicated to making fun of dating app fails. Don't be that guy! Don't send a dick pic as an into. Don't say something you're going to regret. You've been warned! Now get out there and find your soul mate!
