For whatever reason, serial killers have become a mainstream fascination. From the Netflix series Mind Hunters to full blown movie productions like, My Friend Dahmer, pop culture has embraced murder and audiences have embraced it right back. Now, it's important to remember that while these men (and some women) are fascinating from a psychological standpoint, that they did very much kill people (often times, going far beyond just the killing with sadistic torture and cannibalism).
We aren't discussing human beings, we're discussing monsters. To simply call them sociopaths or psychopaths might soothe the DSM community, but, for us, it doesn't truly depict the horrors they caused. The descriptions below were pulled from a reddit thread posed by user, DoctorHerbertWestMD.
"Who was the most twisted serial killer in history?"
If you're interested in this subject beyond just movies and television, there's a boat load of amazing podcasts and literature that offer raw, less "Hollywood" insights. "The Last Podcast On The Left", for example, is a good place to start. As far as literature is concerned, anything penned by Vincent Bugliosi is just about the truest true crime you can get!
David Parker Ray
Donald "Pee-Wee" Henry Gaskins
The BTK Killer (Dennis Rader)
Breaking down the entire history of serial killing would take roughly the rest of 2018. That being said, the answers above are a well-mix of the more well-known and lesser known killers. We aren't going to suggest the following names are "honorable" mentions, but, Richard Ramirez, Albert Fish, David Berkowitz, and John Wayne Gacy (who was also a clown) are also perhaps some of the most twisted men to have ever walked the planet. We suggest if you plan on Googling any of them, you do so during the day!
