A woman by the name of Resa Woodward, who is/was a sixth-grade teacher at an all-girls academy in the Dallas area, is claiming that she was fired after someone outed her for starring in porn over 16 years ago.
The 38-year-old Woodward, who taught science at the Young Women’s STEAM Academy at Balch Springs Middle School, was told she could no longer teach on November 29th due to the allegations, and is still considered on administrative leave by the school as "the process continues," per Dallas News.
Feeling as if she was unfairly removed from her position, Resa Woodward is fighting the school's decision, claiming that, back on March 10th of last year, district officials told her that, unless her previous career became public, she could remain teaching.
Here's what Woodward had to say, per Dallas News:
“I taught in an all-girls STEAM academy that was all about empowerment for women,” Woodward said Tuesday. “The sad thing is that if these girls find out that I’m being punished for something that I did nearly 20 years ago and had no control of and fought to get out of, well, what does that say about empowerment?”
She added: “That involvement was not of my own choosing.”
The educator says that, while she did partake in pornography nearly two decades ago, due to financial troubles while living with an older man, she felt it necessary to earn a steady paycheck. During her time as an adult film performer, Resa said she was able to finish school, become a teacher and, in 2013, even complete her Masters Degree.
That all changed when an anonymous tipster ratted Woodward out, with the report stating that, "The caller was concerned because he/she did not want his/her child exposed to things like this."
While Resa Woodward did file an appeal with the Texas Education Agency, the agency says it wasn't filed correctly, therefore, they are not assigning an independent hearing.
Woodward says that she earned pay raises in each of the past two years from the school, has worked in education for 15 years and that she'll continue to explore what options she has to fight her termination.
