Being naked is liberating, it's a little wild and, at times, can be refreshing—especially when it's in public. Hell, why else do you think people go nuts to strip down and go skinny-dipping?
Thanks to new research, it turns out that we might all want to consider going naked a hell of a lot more often, too, because there are some crazy healthy benefits of showing your entire naked self off, guys.
That comes from the Journal of Happiness Studies, which recently published a study that declared that stripping down naked is a great way to boost your body image, self-esteem, and overall life satisfaction, per MedicalDaily.
"It was found that more participation in naturist activities predicted greater life satisfaction — a relationship that was mediated by more positive body image, and higher self-esteem," wrote the researchers, in their abstract.
During naturist activities, people are communally naked in the company of non-intimate people, who typically have “non-idealized” bodies. It's believed these activities may reduce dissatisfaction with one’s body through seeing other “normal” bodies, and even lead to positive or neutral feedback about one’s own body.
Researchers at Goldsmiths, University of London, sought to investigate and apply the potential benefits of being naked in public, by seeing how it influenced body image, self-esteem, and life satisfaction in a series of three studies.
The information comes from the University of London, which surveyed 849 people of different ages, backgrounds and religions, finding that people who were naked or partially naked around others were less shameful of their own bodies, displaying a higher self-esteem and, overall, were more content with their lives.
Who would have ever thought nudists knew so much, huh?
To further influence you to get naked more often, several surveys have supported the above claim, identifying these health benefits.
Chances are high that you're probably not getting enough sleep—most people average about 6.5 hours per night. So, instead of trying sleeping pills or something else to knock you out, maybe going naked is the solution? According to National Sleep Foundation, sleeping naked could help lower your body temperature, which, in effect, could lead to things like boosting your metabolism, too!
Higher Vitamin D Levels
No, we're not telling you to head outside without clothes on, but the Vitamin D Council does suggest that the more vitamin D we get, the happier we are—so strip down, fellas! According to the research, we only have to be outside for half the amount time, too, meaning you'll get a better tan, more vitamin D and be happier.
So, if you're looking for a way to be a bit more confident, maybe sleeping better and helping your skin, going naked might be the quick and easy way to get there!
