I've talked a decent amount of shit about Tinder in my day, but in this moment, I'm going to go ahead and apologize. Kudos, Tinder—ya'll are good people! Don't let anyone (i.e. me, last week) tell you otherwise). Frankly, I never had anything negative to say about the company itself, but rather the culture of users who subscribe as a means of anonymous, no strings attached, hit it and quit sex. I guess I mainlined too many Disney movies as a kid (and subsequently too many Romantic Comedies as an adult), but I believe in romance. If you want to fornicate mindlessly just pick up someone at a bar, it's more honest. The whole facade of swiping and messaging just seems like a lot of work.
Anyway, it seems not everyone on Tinder follows the same protocol. In fact, these two love birds mimicked some straight-up fairytale folklore. As per People—
"Josh Avsec, 22, and Michelle Arendas, 21, matched on the dating app on September 20, 2014, and got into the habit of coming up with hilarious excuses for not responding to one another. After years of back-and-forth, they finally met on Good Morning America on Tuesday."
I don't know about you guys, but I would have an actual panic attack meeting a romantic interest, for the first time, ON LIVE NATIONAL TELEVISION. It's hard enough to vibe with someone in a restaurant over drinks, let alone in front of an entire audience of middle-aged housewives (typically from The Midwest). Jeez, I shudder at the thought.
Hahahaha one day I'm going to meet this girl and it's going to be epic. Look at the dates of our tinder texts. pic.twitter.com/DASQK4c5cX— Josh Avsec (@Wes_03) July 8, 2017
After Tinder heard about their storybook romance, they offered to fly them anywhere in the world for their date. Talk about being the best match-makers ever! Even if these two end up hating each other, or at the very least having zero sexual chemistry, they still get a free vacation out of it—sign me up! People continued—
“My only expectation is to enjoy our trip and enjoy getting to know each other,' Arendas said on GMA. 'I can absolutely not wait to be on the beach.”
