For all you men out there who think that a dirty romp sesh with your lady is the way to go, you have lots of learning to do, because a new study suggests otherwise—so stop just trying to dip n' dash and start cuddling!
According to research from the Sex Information and Education Council of Canada and Trojan condoms—who surveyed 2,400 Canadians about the last time they had sex—71 percent of women who cuddled for 6-10 minutes following sex described the experience as “very pleasurable." In contrast, only 41 percent of women who cuddled less than 6-10 minutes said the same thing.
Here's what study author Robin Milhausen, Ph.D., a professor of human sexuality at the University of Guelph, had to add, per Men's Health:
That may be because women’s (and men’s) bodies are flooded with oxytocin—the bonding hormone—after sex, making them crave more affection, Milhausen says.
Plus, women often feel vulnerable after sex, she says. Spending a few extra minutes caressing her in bed reassures her that you care about her.
"It’s one of the easiest things you can do to improve your relationship,” Milhausen says. “It’s a really important, but often missed, opportunity for connection.”
And because we know you wonder what's in it for you, the survey also said that cuddling boosted satisfaction for men, too.
If you're in the percentage of guys who like to get in and get out, you might want to rethink your strategy in order to get seconds and even thirds, so consider taking the extra 10 minutes to cuddle and do a little small talk.
