I think it's safe to say that most of us have played a drunken game of, "Would You Rather?" at least once in our lives. It doesn't necessarily have to be played under the influence, but as with all things involving alcohol, it's more fun. What can I say, I'm a bad influence.
Anyway, the brilliant and ever-inquisitive folks over at DrEd decided to take the concept of WYR and go one-step further.
"We presented an online survey to more than 2,000 people in Europe and in the United States on several questions of whether they would opt to give up sex or sex-related experiences, or other major aspects of life such as food, drink, transportation, or the use of other body parts."
Okay, so talk about upping the f'in anti, amirite? I mean, who can confidently answer any of these questions? Let's just thank God all of these are hypothetical and that there will hopefully NEVER be a time in our lives when we have to choose between sex and losing a limb, or even worse, sex and pizza.
They first asked respondents what they would rather give up than sex, and many of their answers ranged from the enjoyable to the essential. It turns out, alcohol would be the first thing to go – around 75 percent of participants said they would rather give up drinking than sex.
On the flip-side, fewer people were willing to give up pizza. Only about 63 percent were willing to sacrifice the winning combo of cheese, sauce and bread over carnal relations.
Beer or sex? Why not ask me seeing or hearing? It's virtually the same thing. Most people wouldn't give up sex for beer, but things got interesting when oral sex was put on the table.
"More than 30 percent of European men and nearly 31 percent of European women would give up oral sex for beer."
"Around 42 percent of U.S. men and just over 37 percent of European men would be willing to lose one of their arms if it meant continuing to have sex"
It's just unnatural to ask people to make these sorts of decisions, this one however, was pretty simple:
"Interestingly, a surprising number of men – over 17 percent in Europe and nearly 8 percent in America."
That's still a decent amount of people!
When it comes to social media versus sex, I was actually incredibly proud of the human response. I would have been mortified if this posed impossible for people to decide between.
"Almost 90 percent of men would quit social media for a year before giving up sex."
